Our Staff

Children with teacher First and foremost, our staff at CLP is made up of experienced, well-educated professionals who love children. All teachers are trained to achieve a minimum of a Childhood Development Associate Degree and Level Two Registry certification, which provides a strong knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Teachers also bring backgrounds in Art, Literature, Music and Foreign Languages. Besides a professional attitude, teachers are fun loving and understand the value of laughter in the classroom. Teachers value the process of learning through play and consistent, quality adult and child interactions.

When looking to recruit new staff, CLP sends notices to area child care training programs, such as the University of Wisconsin, School of Education and the Madison Area Technical College, Early Childhood Education Department. Applicants are screened for relevant job qualifications and experience and past employment and criminal reference checks are conducted by the Executive Director for the top candidates of each opening. Upon hire, each staff member is required to complete a comprehensive orientation which provides information about the program, philosophy, policies, procedures, and an introduction to the staff and children. Written evaluations of job performances are done at least yearly by an immediate supervisor and/or the Executive Director, Mary Flanner. The different teaching positions at CLP are Teacher Assistant, Teacher and Lead Teacher.

Our staff participates in continuing education programs in areas including pediatric life support and basic first aid, conflict management, brain development and positive guidance techniques. Full time Teachers participate in continuing education a minimum of 25 hours a year. Regular staff meetings are held monthly. Teachers also have regular planning hours every week in order to prepare up coming classroom activities and work on professional development. Staff members also receive individual education expense accounts to help pat for tuition and registration for their continuing education. Year round, staff members take advantage of High Scope training sessions offered through City of Madison Office of Community Services.

Teacher with infant Permanent employees also receive a competitive benefit package which includes paid vacation, personal time, health and dental insurance and a retirement package. Teachers are part of the decision making team and are encouraged and welcome to attend and participate at the Board of Director Meetings.

An appropriate teacher/child ratio is an important part of achieving quality care. In our Infant Program the teacher/child ratio is 1 to 3 with a maximum group size of 8 children. In the One Year Old Program the ratio is 1 to 4 with a maximum group size of 8. Group size in the Two Year Old Program is 12 with a 1 to 6 ratio. The Three and Four Year Old Programs have a ratio of 1 to 8. And our Pre-K Program ratio is 1 to 10. CLP also has a Summer Program for children in Kindergarten to Sixth Grade. CLP recognizes that some times of the day are busier than others. During lunch and nap time for example, 1- and 2-year old classrooms are often supplemented with an additional teacher.

CLP benefits from a strong network of Substitute and Part Time Teachers. CLP also has a full-time, on- sight cook and kitchen staff. We also greatly value the Volunteers who work here at CLP.

Teachers at Creative Learning work as a team with each other, administration, parents and of course the children to make every experience at CLP a positive and memorable learning experience!
