Administrative Staff


The administrative staff at CLP is made up of the Executive Director, the Business Manager, the Administrative Assistant and the Kitchen Manager.*

Executive Director: Mary M. Flanner

Mary Flanner has been with Creative Learning Preschool since January of 1995. She has a degree in Elementary Education from Marquette University, with an extensive background in Early Childhood Education. Before coming to CLP, Mary was a pre-school teacher at St. Andrews Nursery School and a substitute teacher in the Madison Metropolitan School District. She also taught elementary, 1st through 4th grade.

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation and reports to the Board of Directors. This position is responsible for planning, administering and managing the agency. This person serves as a key advisor to the Board of Directors on the formulation of policies and procedures and operational guidelines. The Executive Director directs administrative, fiscal and operational functions of the child care center and serves as a liaison with committees, the Dept. of Administration (DOA), parents and the community. The Executive Director is also responsible for the implementation of the Board's directives and policies, administering contractual obligations with the D.O.A., liaison with state licensing and city accreditation ensuring compliance and ensuring an effective beneficial environment for the children of state employees and other downtown employers.

The Executive Director's primary functions are as follows:

bullet Planning, administration and management of child care center programs and services, abiding by state, federal and city laws, center rules and policies
bullet Manage the center's human resources and labor relations program and provide consultation and advice to the Board and staff members
bullet Coordinate, evaluate and implement center plans and objectives, budgets, policies and procedures and special projects
bullet Oversee compliance with Federal Food Program guidelines and regulations in executing menu planning, and monitoring of all kitchen duties and personnel

Business Manager: Kerrie Goeden

Kerrie Goeden has been the Business Manager of Creative Learning Preschool since March of 1997, when the position was newly created. Kerrie has degrees in Marketing, Management and International Business from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to working at CLP, Kerrie was an Operations Manager for Orion Food Systems. Kerrie also has her WI Professional Credential for Child Care Administrators.

The Business Manager's primary functions are to control and maintain the fiscal operations of the center. The Business Manager's responsibilities are as follows:

bullet Maintain and administer entire tuition account records
bullet Create and update operating budget, project monthly income
bullet Manage bank account and process tuition payments
bullet Manage accounts payable and receivable
bullet Compile monthly financial statements
bullet Process payroll and payroll taxes
bullet Grant writing and grant administration
bullet Manage any ongoing litigation
bullet Maintain staff benefits, flexible compensation plan, insurance and retirement plans
bullet Prepare and maintain information necessary for union negotiations and compliance

Administrative Assistant: Ann Hansen

Ann Hansen has been working at Creative Learning Preschool since June of 1996. She started with CLP as an infant and toddler teacher, working in the classrooms with children ages 6 weeks - 2 years old. Since then, Ann has worked as our Closing Coordinator, Toddler Lead Teacher, and in August of 1999, Ann accepted the position of Administrative Assistant. Prior to working at Creative Learning Preschool, Ann worked as a nanny for six years and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  Ann has a degree in English Literature and her Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate. She also holds the WI Professional Credential for Child Care Administrators Credential.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in the administrative operations of the center. The Administrative Assistant's primary duties are as follows:

bullet Provide support, guidance and information to Executive Director as required
bullet Assist with enrollment records, update waiting list
bullet Purchase and stock consumable supplies
bullet Conduct new staff orientations
bullet Data entry, answer telephones, filing, copying
bullet Revise and update forms, handbooks, and manuals, enrollment records, personnel records
bullet Maintain parent information, parent materials, telephone/address lists
bullet Compile and submit reports as needed

Kitchen Manager: Diane Padden

Diane has been the Kitchen Manager and Cook at Creative Learning Preschool since September 2001. Diane's specialties include fresh, home made muffins, breads and soups. Before working at CLP, Diane has worked as a chef for various catering services and restaurants. Diane's specialties include home baked breads, muffins, homemade soups. Diane focuses on providing fresh, seasonable fruit and vegetables.

The Food Manager is responsible for ensuring a high quality and safe food program in accordance with standards articulated by federal, state, and city codes. She is responsible for the management of the center's kitchen, and all procurement, preparation and disposal of food related supplies. The Kitchen Manager's primary duties are as follows:

bullet Preparation of breakfast, lunch and snack to the guidelines of the DPI
bullet Plan meals and prepare menus
bullet Accommodate food restrictions and allergies, track and post allergy lists
bullet Order all food and supplies from vendors
bullet Clean up after meals
bullet Work with Community Support Network personnel
bullet Maintain kitchen equipment
bullet Keep daily production records, file all recipes
bullet Supervise cooking projects with children
